Here Are My Recommendations For The Best Banff Activities, Hotels and Banff Travel Deals

Posted in Snowboarding

Seeing that I regularly travel to Banff, Alberta, I should be able to assist you in choosing the best Banff Travel Deal, Banff Hotel or Activity. I usually travel to Lake Louise or Banff in the winter, seeing as I am an avid skier. Either way, the resort is in operation all year round and it is always a good time to enjoy the Canadian lifestyle. You have definitely come to the right place if you are seeking information on the some of North America’s top golf and ski resorts.

Located just over an hours drive from Calgary, Alberta, is the town of Banff. Within the immediate area of the town are three main ski hills: Sunshine Village, Lake Louise and Mount Norquay. Each of these ski resorts are approximately a one hour drive from Banff. There are also many golf courses in the area, with the most popular ones being Kananaskis and the Fairmont Banff Springs. There are fantastic Banff travel deals to take advantage of, whether you are seeking a winter or summer vacation.

Below is a list of my top 4 favorite luxury hotels in Banff and available Banff deals.

1. Fairmont Banff Springs: Stay at the famous and exclusive Fairmont Banff Springs for your winter holiday and enjoy free nights! Stay 4 nights, only pay 3 and get an additional $100 Food and Beverage Credit when you book before November 16, 2009.

2. The Rimrock: This hotel has the only four diamond restaurant in Banff and has a 5 Star hotel rating. Seeing the hotel is situated directly across the street from the Banff hot springs and has an outdoor ice rink, it is truly a great property for the kids over the winter period. If you book this property by November 15, 2009, you will receive 20% off all stays after December 23, 2009.

3. The Fox: I would strongly recommend The Fox if you are seeking a moderately priced accommodation for your Banff holiday. This property is quite modern and is great for romantic getaways or family winter vacations. This is also one of the few properties in Banff offering 2 bedroom suites.

4. Hidden Ridge. This property is located in Tunnel Mountain and is a great options for those seeking a relatively inexpensive vacation for the whole family. The suites at this property are very spacious and come with fantastic ammenities such as private balconies, large flat screen televisions, full kitchens and wood fireplaces. As well, many tour operators will offer discounts on activities and lift tickets if you book Banff hotel packages with them. This is a great way to go, in my opinion, as the lift tickets are valid for any of the three mountains in the area.

There are many winter activities to do in Banff. One activity that is gaining tons of interest from travelers the dog sledding. This is an experience that is quite unique to Canada. It takes you into the backcountry of Alberta, with a dog team in tact, to allow you to experience a traditional Canadian outback adventure. Other popular activities during the winter are snowmobiling, heli skiing, ice climbing, ice walks, ice fishing and the occasional sleigh ride.

Summer in Banff is also a great time of year. This town is a real golfers dream and there are world class courses available to play. You can also experience the summer in Banff with activities such as ziptreking, fishing, whitewater rafting and nature trips allowing you to view eagles, wolves, rams, mountain lions and even grizzly bears.

Banff is a great all season resort, regardless of what you ultimately decide to do. I have yet to experience all Banff has to offer, but I have certainly done most of the activities and can fairly comment and advise as to the highlights. You will be impressed with the diversity and what the area has to offer no matter what you choose.

Everything to Keep in Mind for a Wonderful Ski Trip

Posted in Snowboarding

Skiing is not just another one of those sports you strap on a pair of sneakers and walk out your front door to practice?it?s a little more intense than that. Skiing is more of a vacation sport, something we create a master plan to enjoy and travel a good distance to practice. Hence, there are several considerations that need to go into your planning to make sure you will have an enjoyable ski trip.

To begin with, you need to be sure that you have your mind set on a good ski resort location. In Australia, the best skiing is to be had in the southeastern portion of the country which is where the largest, most fitting mountain ranges are located. It’s important that you conduct a bit of research on the kinds of weather and snow conditions you’ll be faced with before deciding on a destination and undertaking the trip. Despite the fact that there is always a bit of risk here, if you research the matter well enough you ought to be making a fairly safe bet in the end.

Plan your ski trip around the people that you will be enjoying it with. Don?t bring the kids along if all you want to do is rip down double black diamond after double black diamond?you will kill them! If you do bring the kids along, you will surely be able to find a moment to escape and get your intense, heart-stopping ski moments in, so don?t be so concerned. Your kids will love the experience and may grow up to become avid skiers just like yourself!

If it has been some time since you last did any skiing, or if you are going to be riding along side others that have little to no experience in the sport, then it is more than advisable that you join in an instructor’s course or two before taking the plunge on the real trails. Also, be sure to find out about what the snow conditions are out on the trails, as this will influence just what kind of skiing techniques you will have to employ.

That’s a serious matter in its own right: what skiing techniques to use. Different snow conditions will necessitate different techniques, as there is an enormous difference between gliding along a field of ungroomed, brand new powder and hitting a long stretch of compacted, icy snow or man-made snow. You should find out from staff at the resort what the conditions are like at the moment before making your way to the lifts.

If your ski trip will last for several days, then make sure you don’t wear yourself out completely on the first day! You will not appreciate just how taxing the sport is when you finish your first day, but the following morning will deliver the message loud and clear. Be modest to start so that you don’t ruin the next few days.

Likewise, don’t hesitate to do lots of stretching and avoid activities that will give you cramps or otherwise hamper your condition, such as being liberal with the bottle or stuffing yourself with food (or failing to eat enough).

Lastly, in the event that you do have an accident while skiing, be smart and invest in a “Winter Sports Coverage” insurance package before leaving home. Though hopefully it won’t be needed, the potential cost of medical bills will be much greater than the small investment in such an insurance deal. Be smart and take this precaution.

Byron Jonas adores skiing in the Japan snow. Niseko is his favorite of the Japan ski resorts and Hooting Owl Lodge his favorite abode to lodge.
