I would like to know why skateboarding and snowboarding stances are called goofy and regular. If it is possible, I would also like to know what is the normal etymology of these words (I think regular comes from latin but I’m not sure).

I was better than all the high school guys who had been snowboarding the same amount of time as me and I was wondering how can I get pursue this as I get older and get the oppurtinity to board more.
